With deepest sympathy

Mark Gallon - Mark held a great love of traditional dance and music during his long life, beginning with being recruited into his local Morris team in Whitby as a youngster. He was a member of Lichfield Morris, and Armitage Mummers. He came along to Beggar's Oak to join the musicians where he met Yvonne who was dancing with us. Together they joined a border team for a while. Later he played his flutes and whistles in folk sessions, and came once more to play for Beggar's Oak for his last years. Always a kind gentle man. You are missed Mark. RIP now with Yvonne.

What is Clog Dancing?

North West Morris is characterised by brightly coloured costume, live music, a steady drum beat and clogs. It has its origins in the mill towns of North West England, although you can find sides (groups of dancers and musicians) throughout the country and further afield.
